About Callum James
I’m a writer, photographer and human living in Dorset on the South Coast of England, having moved back from London where I spent much of my career.
I’ve always had a great love for reading and came to writing following some dark episodes in my life. Suffering from PTSD, writing became a way of battling the past, and this led to my first published novel The Accidental Malthusian. I continue to write and currently I’m working on my second novel as well a couple of short stories.
My photography is purely self taught, and I can remember falling instantly in love with a camera from a very early age. I try not to define the genres of photography I am into, as I feel it’s important for my imagination to wonder where there is beauty and a story. Having said that, in recent years I’ve been drawn heavily towards ‘Intentional Camera Movement’ (ICM) and Multiple Exposure techniques which blur the lines between photography and painting.
I try to use my writing and photography as an escape, as I am currently rebuilding my life following the passing of my elderly father who I cared for full time for a number of years through the cruelty of dementia as well as other life robbing conditions.
My interests are varied, but I especially like to spend long hours exploring the Dorset countryside through my passion for photography, as well as long discussions over a glass of red, contemplating the questions of life.
What People Are Saying
“This photo works because it masterfully blends motion and stillness, turning an everyday cityscape into a mesmerizing visual story. The choice to layer movement around the steadfast church draws the eye and stirs the imagination, inviting viewers to reflect on the passage of time in urban spaces. What makes this image unique is the almost dreamlike fusion of the old and the fleeting, the hustle of daily life ghosting past a stoic monument. It inspires others by showing there’s beauty in chaos and poetry in the rush. This shot reflects an intuitive photographer’s vision—someone who sees beyond the surface and beautifully captures the unseen rhythm of city life.”

“This is the first book from a new author who I really hope has many more to come . A well written and very realistic outcome, couldn’t put it down ,not far fetched and makes you think .All the characters relatable & it gave me a picture in my mind of The DRC , don’t think I’ll be going there anytime soon .Loved the way Callum James intertwines his characters .This book also could have a follow up or even a trilogy ...here’s hoping .Highly recommend this if your looking for a Summer read.”
